The Crossroads…
You know that place—the moment in your journey when a decision arises. The moment when you ask yourself, “Do I keep going this way, or do I go that way?”
The crossroads will show up time and time again in this lifetime. Whether it’s a big decision or a small one, there will always be a crossroads. Which path will you choose? Bagel or biscuit? Dress or pants? Teacher or doctor? All of these decisions lead our days and our lives in different directions, whether we realize it or not.
So, what do you do when you’re at the crossroads? Which part of yourself do you tune in to? Do you choose your heart? Your gut instincts? Or do you rely on your wits? What do you lean on when it’s time to make a decision?
I have this theory. I call it the Brain-Heart-Gut Theory. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this way, and I’m sure this thought process has been around for some time, but here’s how I interpret it:
Our brains are like computers—they process information. However, sometimes they overthink, and we end up second-guessing ourselves.
Our hearts are passionate and always lead us toward what they desire. They’re entirely based on feelings and often throw logic out the window. Sweet things.
Our guts, though—they absorb only what we need and dispose of the rest. They literally can’t lie to us, and we can’t lie to them. When we ignore logic, our stomachs tell us. When we overthink logic, our stomachs tell us.
For me, my gut has been my best decision-maker, and any time I didn’t listen, I quickly learned otherwise.
So, here I am, standing at the crossroads. I’m sitting with the decision, taking in all the information, and preparing to set foot in the direction best for me.
An awesome relationship coach once told me, “If it’s not a full-body yes, it’s a F*ck No.” That theory applies to every aspect of our lives, if you ask me.
Have you stood at the crossroads recently? How did you decide?
