Dear Mama,

I can't stop your hair from graying

Or your bones from aging

I can't keep your mind in tact

I can't pause or slow down this track.

Life is short, even when it seems long,

If I knew when these days would come all along,

Maybe I would have sent you more pictures,

Or recorded you more songs.

I look at you and I see pure love in your eyes,

I look at you and see life's stories penciled in your face like fine lines.

Sometimes you can't remember where it is we are going for dinner

Sometimes you stop and ask if you are repeating yourself

I watch you strain as you step up the stairs. I always extend my hand. I'll always offer to help.

I can't change you. I can't turn back the time.

I wish I could run to those days when you ran by my side.

But instead I walk slowly beside you, and assure you it's fine.

I'm sorry mama for all of the years we have missed,

I'll love you forever mama. Please remember this.

I may not make it to every appointment for you,

But I'll always come to your side when you ask me to.

You are my world. The being that keeps me bright.

I may be your sunshine. But you're the reason I have light.

Thanks for being my mom. I love you for every part that you are.

I'll always hold you close. So very dear to my heart.
